Paradise Women’s Football Club were crowned champions of the Barbados Football Association (BFA) Women’s Development Cup seven-a-side competition with an impressive 4-1 victory over Weymouth Wales in the final, played on Sunday afternoon at the BFA Technical Centre in Wildey.
A stellar all-round performance from Barbados’ best attacking midfielder and Most Valuable Player, Shanice Stevenson, complemented by a hat-trick from Tekoa Hope-Downes, propelled Paradise to a well-deserved championship victory.
Undoubtedly, Paradise and Weymouth Wales are the island’s two top women’s football teams.
With both squads featuring several of Barbados’ most talented and skilful players, a competitive showdown was anticipated. However, Paradise dominated proceedings in the attacking third, securing their triumph in the 40-minute match, divided into two 20-minute halves.
Captained by senior national defender Adrienne Forde, Paradise took an early lead in the fourth minute. A well-placed through ball from Stevenson found Barbados vice-captain Ashanee Thompson, who delivered a superb finish past Wales’ goalkeeper, Moesha Goodman. (ML)
