‘Nuff’ flying fish

Flying fish will be in abundance for Easter with a sharp rise in the catch that was scarce for months.

Fish cleaner Fabian Douthy, the 44-year-old grandson of Berinda Cox after whom the Berinda Cox Fish Market in Oistins, Christ Church is named, told the DAILY NATION the most popular fish at market last week was indeed flying fish.

“This week was flying fish. [It] put these women back in work because these women usually sit down long, long and they ain’t getting no flying fish. Last week we ain’t had nothing so. The boats come and save we this week. They get nuff flying fish,” he said on Saturday, pointing to female vendors cleaning and selling flying fish.

Douthy, a former boning champion at previous Oistins Fish Festivals, “coming second all the time now” to Tyrone “Dolphin” Shorey, said everyone in the market was expecting even bigger supplies of flying fish this week because fishermen still at sea indicated they had big hauls in hand. (SNR)
