Barbadians are not taking charge of their health and the fallout from this is one of the “biggest issues” affecting operations at the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department.
Chief operating officer of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), Dr Christine Greenidge, who was speaking on Starcom Network’s Down To Brass Tacks yesterday, said most of the patients they saw could be classified as “non-compliant”.
“They are not taking the blood pressure medication. They are not taking the diabetes medication, and so they present in these states of non-compliance,” said Greenidge, stressing the importance of people taking hold of their health.
She said many of these challenges were exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
