There was no shooting in the Accident and Emergency Department of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) nor on the compound on Tuesday night.
The story of shots being fired at the health institution and people sent scrambling spread on social media after an incident at My Lord’s Hill, St Michael.
However, a statement from the hospital’s executive chairman, Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland, said staff were placed on a heightened state of alert.
Plain-clothes officers investigated what appeared to be a suspicious vehicle on the hospital’s compound, and this was thought to be the origin of the rumour and the cause of unnecessary panic.
“The police on the scene did their best to reassure staff and patients, and we continue to monitor security on the premises very carefully in collaboration with the Barbados Police Service,” she said. (PR/SAT)
