The National Insurance Department is preparing to take some “non-compliant” employers to court.
Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Senator Dr Shantal Munro-Knight said this related to those who received employee contributions but did not pay them in as mandated by law.
She was speaking in the Upper House yesterday as Senators debated and approved the National Insurance and Social Security (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 2023.
Munro-Knight was responding to concerns raised by Independent Senator Andrew Mallalieu.
“I wanted to respond . . . to Senator Mallalieu’s concern in relation to what we were doing to respond to the recommendation that was made in relation to non-compliant employers who were unfortunately taking employees’ [NIS] contributions and then not paying them in,” the acting Leader of Government Business said.
