Roger Nyhus has been confirmed as the new United States Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean.
The Seattle, Washington business leader, who was nominated for the post by President Joe Biden in September 2022, was confirmed last month on a unanimous Senate voice vote. The ambassadorship includes Barbados, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, and St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Nyhus will replace Ambassador Linda Taglialatela who has been serving for about seven years. No date was given on when he will take over.
Shortly after his confirmation by the Senate, he wrote on his Linked-in page: “I’m incredibly honoured to represent the United States and the American people in seven dynamic, independent democratic nations in the Caribbean. I am especially proud to serve President Biden as a business leader, gay man, member of the Chinook Indian Nation and Seattleite.
“I will be a strong and unwavering advocate for all Americans, American business and innovation, and our important diplomatic relationships,” he added.
According to a Seattle Times report, Nyhus founded Nyhus Communications, a prominent Seattle public relations and advocacy firm, which he sold last year. (GC)
