Government’s Forensic Sciences Centre is investigating what could be new narcotic substances in circulation in Barbados.
This follows recently circulated social media videos in which young men were seen displaying abnormal behaviour after ingesting an unknown substance.
Deputy manager of the National Council on Substance Abuse (NCSA), Troy Wickham, said yesterday they anticipated that Minister of Home Affairs Wilfred Abrahams will be issuing a statement “sometime in the very near future as it relates to the substances that we are currently investigating”.
He was taking part in a two-day training workshop titled Early Warning Systems On Drugs, organised by the NCSA and held at the National Union of Public Workers’ headquarters in Dalkeith, St Michael.
Wickham said the investigations entailed submitting various substances to the Forensic Sciences Centre for testing “so we can have some scientific evidence to support what we are probably hearing anecdotally on the streets”. (GC)
