Never meant to kill wife, man tells cops

Colin Hadley Reifer declared to police on more than one occasion that he loved his wife “dearly” and that he had no intention to kill her.

However, he claimed the woman was beating him and he held her by the throat, as they were fighting, in self-defence.

This was part of the facts read to the No. 5A Supreme Court when Reifer appeared there yesterday.

Reifer, now 66, a contractor, of Sunset Drive North, Fort George Heights, St Michael, was arraigned with murdering his wife Cheryl Bourne-Reifer on February 15, 2015.

He pleaded not guilty to that count but guilty to unlawfully killing the woman – manslaughter – on the same date. (HLE)
