The second Ruffugee flight for Barbadian rescue dogs lifted off for Canada from MJet hanger just after 11 this morning.
On board were 187 dogs – six from Woodbourne Kennels and the remainder from Ocean Acres Animal Sanctuary.
Ocean Acres founder Karen Whittaker said the second flight was again out of necessity as a result of the number of abandoned dogs on the island.
“It’s very much tinged with sadness that I have to do this because I would very much like that we didn’t have to do this. I wish that there weren’t so many dogs and cats abandoned and in need of help in Barbados,” Whittaker said.
In May last year, 200 dogs and 14 cats went to new homes in Canada. (HLE)
