Georgetown – Police said Friday that they had destroyed more than six billion dollars (One Guyana dollar=US$0.004 cents) worth of marijuana.
The discovery was made on a farm which reportedly had more than 10 acres of marijuana plants in addition to already cultivated marijuana, and that the discovery was made during a joint operation with the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
According to a police statement, the operation netted more than 6 000 marijuana plants in addition to 8 000 pounds of dried marijuana in a house in Upper Berbice River community of Gaetroy, following a tip off.
But the police said no one was found at the scene and that all of the marijuana found along with the farm, a wooden house and two camps were destroyed by law enforcement officials.
The police said the estimated value of the destroyed marijuana was GUY$3.2 billion. (CMC)
