London-based lawyer, Victoria Evans, rowed into Port St Charles, Barbados, at 4:57 a.m. on Thursday, and was welcomed by friends and family who travelled from the United Kingdom.
The 35-year-old began her journey 41 days ago when she set off from the Canary Islands, breaking the current standing World Record by about nine days.
Evans said she started this feat to break the bias and to fight for gender equality and women in sports.
“Relieved, I am so happy to be here. I have been celebrating since I saw Barbados 24 hours ago,” she said in an interview.
“I wanted to do a big challenge to raise awareness about the need for more gender equality in sport and show women and girls anything is possible.”
Evans said she was excited to be in Barbados and “can’t wait” to explore the island. (PR)
