Kelly wins in BCU’s criterium

Former Caribbean champion Joshua Kelly removed any uncertainty as to whether he is fully recovered from a broken leg as he crossed the finish line first in Category One of the Barbados Cycling Union’s criterium on the Maynard’s, St Peter/Alleynedale, St Lucy circuit on Sunday.

In the presence of supporters alongside the Alleynedale stretch near St Lucy Parish Church, Kelly, a member of Miami Blazers in the United States, but features locally for Sentry Glassco, reminded everyone why he is regarded as Barbados’ top elite male road cyclist.

Competing in his first local competition for 2023, Kelly, a 2021 Caribbean Cycling Championships gold medallist in the men’s 90-kilometre road race said he was happy with his overall performance.

“The course was definitely a fun one. I love this circuit, the weather was nice and the turnout was really good. Honestly, I just came out to support my federation, support my local team and have some fun. I am definitely happy with the result,” Kelly told Nation Sport.  (ML)
