A taxi driver appeared in the District “B” Magistrates’ Court in St Joseph last Wednesday on two drug-related charges.
Alexander Adolphus Holder, 44, of Bath Land, St John, pleaded guilty to the importation of five kilogrammes of cannabis on March 18, and doing acts preparatory for the purpose of possessing a traffickable quantity of marijuana on that same date. The estimated street value of the drugs was
$40 400.
Prosecutor Constable Tammisha Knight told the court, sitting at the Eric Holder Jr Municipal Complex in St Joseph, that the self-employed man went to Aeromarine Barbados Limited in Seawell, Christ Church, to collect a package which had been sent for him from the United States. He showed his driver’s licence and the necessary documents to have the package cleared by customs.
When customs staff examined the box in Holder’s presence, they found three smaller boxes inside, each holding ten vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana. They seized the drugs and called police. (SD)
