A mother has come in for high praise from a High Court judge for refusing to be an enabler of her son’s crimes.
The comment came from Justice Carlisle Greaves, who praised Kemar Tamall Walrond’s mother for handing over her son’s gun even though it meant a stint on remand for him and a conviction against his name.
The judge said that Walrond, while in custody, had told his mother where she could find the illegal weapon and she was the one who recovered it and brought it to police.
He described the mother as “a special person”.
“So here in this case we have, unlike in many cases, a mother displaying a high responsibility even to the extent that it led to the conviction of her son,” Justice Greaves said. “So I was sympathetic to her in this case as she ought not to feel guilty for causing her son any substantial period of imprisonment through her good citizenship, which she should be commended for.” (HLE)
