International Futsal League set to debut in Barbados

A new futsal tournament entitled “International Futsal League” will get underway in Barbados this December for both males and females teams with all quarter finalists guaranteed to win prize money.

The male teams will compete for a total prize of $33,100, with the winners getting $15,000. Their female counterparts are playing for the winners prize of $10,000 with the whole purse being $20,830.

It is scheduled to run from December 13 to 21 at the Barbados Hockey Centre and the BFA Technical Centre and will feature 16 male teams and eight female teams, including up to four international squads from the United States and Canada.

Media Officer for Mavericks Sports Club Inc, Michelle Straughn expressed her enthusiasm saying  “We are proud to create this exciting tournament that will enhance visibility for Barbados. This initiative will foster engagement and exposure for all participants—players, coaches, entertainers, fans, and potential sponsors. We also extend our gratitude to the Barbados Football Association for their support and partnership.”

In preparation for the tournament, 24 of Barbados’ elite coaches will lead the teams, each named to reflect the island’s heritage.

The confirmed teams participating in the league are:

Male Teams: Sugar Cane Ballerz, Trident Hotshotz, Pelican Strikers, Bajan Delight, Bim Lightning Boltz, Culpepper Heat, Flying Fish Skillerz, Settlers United, Bim Pride, Tropical Fire Blazers, Bajan Tradewinds, Sunshine City, Hackleton’s United, Sand & Sea Shottas, Caribbean Glory, 246 Commanders.

Female Teams: Sugar Cane Ballerz,Trident Hotshotz, Pelican Strikers, Flying Fish Skillerz, Bim Lightning Boltz, Culpepper Heat, Flying Fish Skillerz, Settlers United

An official Player Draft Day is scheduled for November 2, 2024, at 4:00 PM at the BFA Technical Centre. (JC)
