Immigration officer Rommel Ricardo Chase was found guilty of issuing a false document of Caribbean Community Skills Qualification to a man when his trial concluded in the No. 5 Supreme Court yesterday.
Chase, of Wilkinson Road, Eagle Hall, St Michael, had denied that between July 20, 2018, and January 24, 2019, he made a false document, namely, a Certificate of Recognition of Caribbean Community Skills Qualification, bearing the number 2018 – 0174, purporting to be issued by the Barbados Accreditation Council with the intention that Oral Reid would use it to induce the Chief Immigration Officer to accept it as genuine, and by reason of so accepting it, would grant the same Oral Reid registration or employment as a CARICOM skilled national.
He was represented by attorney Dave Porter, while Principal State Counsel Krystal Delaney and State Counsel Tito Holder and Kevin Forde prosecuted.
Yesterday, the jury took about an hour to come to its unanimous decision.
Chase has no previous convictions.
Porter then requested a pre-sentencing report, which was granted by Justice Pamela Beckles.
Delaney did not object to Chase remaining on bail.
The judge allowed bail to continue and ordered the pre-sentencing report to be produced by May 31. (HLE)
