A half-century stand between veteran cricketer Randy Thomas and opener Shamario DePeiza followed by a dynamic opening burst from Miguel Cummins, spurred BWU Superb Blend Gladiola to a comprehensive win by 126 runs over Wildey in the final of the BCA Super50 Cup yesterday at Isolation Cavaliers’ home ground in Lakes St Andrew.
Set a revised target of 249 off 24 overs in reply to Gladiola’s 294 off 50 overs, Wildey folded for 122 off 17.5 overs.
Thomas, dropped on 21 by Jayden Roberts off Deswin Currency and DePeiza both hit half-centuries while Cummins had the impressive figures of three for 12 off four overs. Man of the Match Matthew Jones survived a chance at 27 to hit a belligerent 49 and bagged a couple wickets but the match was initially set up by the brilliance of Thomas and Depeiza.
The 41-year-old former Barbados player came to the crease at the dismissal of hard-hitting opener Martin Nurse, also a former Barbados cricketer. He fashioned a well-paced top score of 62 off 76 balls, an innings that included two fours and two sixes. Thomas and DePeiza added 85 for the second wicket to set the foundation for a formidable score after Gladiola had been invited to bat. (PH)
