The Government Industrial School (GIS) is transitioning to provide a structured education component for wards.
And the donation of cosmetology equipment by the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) Women’s League is but a first step in putting those opportunities in place so the girls can make a smooth transition back into society with marketable skills.
“You are not here because you want to be here… but while you are under our care, it is critical for us that you don’t waste your time when you’re here,” said Minister of Home Affairs, Information and Public Affairs Wilfred Abrahams as he accepted the donation.
“When you leave here you should leave here with some skill you did not have when you came . . . you should leave here with an outlook you did not have when you walked through the gates. I want all of you to leave better people than when you came in.” (Nation News)
