Franklyn: Protest action on stream

It appears to be all systems go for today’s planned sick-out regarding the proposed changes to the National Insurance Scheme that affects the retirement age and pensions.

However, general secretary of the Unity Workers Union (UWU) Caswell Franklyn, who called for the action, made it clear it was not a UWU-only sick-out.

“The meetings were open to all public sector workers, not just UWU members, and I know there were those not in the UWU who were there,” he said yesterday.

“We are asking them to demonstrate their displeasure by letting [Government] know they are not going to work [today] because of what is being done.

“I made the suggestion [of a sick-out] hoping people will see what I am trying to do and I am hoping people will take up the call.” (CA)
