Former ombudsman and magistrate Valton Donavon Bend has died.
Reports are that the 74-year-old father of one passed away at home yesterday.
Bend was appointed to the post of Ombudsman in May 2009 following on from a stretch as a magistrate.
He joined the Public Service in 1978 and worked as a Crown Counsel before ascending to the magistracy in 1984, acting as Chief Magistrate at different points along the way.
Bend retired from the post after being the fourth person to be appointed Ombudsman following the creation of the office in the 1980s.
Sir Frank Blackman, who was the first to be installed in 1987, died in May this year. (AC)
