At least two economists are in support of the annual Barbados Secondary School Entrance Examination being scraped.
“I am one that believes that the Common Entrance has done more damage than good. I am one that vehemently, as political as I am not, will support the day that is disabused. The fact is it sections off children at too early an age in areas that might not be best applied for them,” said Jeremy Stephen.
Stephen was one of three panellists during a panel discussion titled The Economy and Labour, hosted by the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) on Monday night at its at Dalkeith, St Michael, headquarters. Other panellists included former Minister in the Ministry of Economic Affairs Marsha Caddle and attorney Elson Gaskin.
Stephen, an economic consultant, admitted that he “sucked at being an economist”, and was far better at “piecing things together”. (RA)
