Ryan Yearwood is making a $250 000 plea to save the life of his seven-year-old daughter.
While a baby, Amya Destiny Holmes Yearwood was diagnosed with a rare case of biliary atresia, a condition in which the bile ducts outside and inside the liver are scarred and blocked so bile builds up in the liver and damages it. She needs the money in order to receive medical treatment in the South American country of Colombia, chosen because of its track record with liver transplants.
“At three years old she was given three months to three years to live, so she is defying the odds right now actually and fighting on. We’ve been told by the doctors now that it is last-stage liver failure and therefore she needs a lot of attention and care while trying to manage the condition,” Yearwood said.
The single parent has been taking care of Amya for the last nine months after her mother Sherry-Ann Holmes, who had quit her job to be her primary care-giver, died.
