Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) director of Operations Dr Nicole Manning says the regional examination body is tightening up procedures and instituting systems to safeguard the integrity of the examination process, in light of breaches occurring this year.
She said the investigation was continuing with the territory in which the breaches occurred and CXC was working with the police to close the matter.
In addition, an efficiency audit was started last year, while the CXC would be engaging in in “deeper reviews and engagements with local registrars and Ministries of Education”.
Manning was speaking at the CXC 2023 Official Release of Results Ceremony hosted by the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis in that country today.
Back in May, CXC said the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Math Paper 02 was leaked and registrar Dr Wayne Wesley later disclosed it breach occurred at a centre in Jamaica.
The following month, CXC again reported a breach, this time the “fireproof cabinets containing examination papers for nine subjects scheduled to be administered this week, were stolen from a school in Jamaica”.
Manning said the use of cellular phones in the exams was still the biggest issue this year as candidates took cell phones into the examination room and also made use of smart watches.
Exam results for all territories will be disclosed by the Ministry of Education in every territory at 6 p.m. today. (GC)
