Cuff costs man $4 000

A man who punched a teenaged girl in her mouth a decade ago, was sentenced to 19 months in jail and must also pay her $4 000 in compensation.

Even though Nicholas Henry Rico Bailey’s sentence was suspended for 12 months, he has one week in which to find half of the money, or he goes to prison. Justice Wanda Blair, presiding in Supreme Court No. 4A, gave him four more months to pay the other half, failing which the 19-month term will kick in, even if Bailey has paid the first half.

Now 34, the painter, of Phillips Road, St Stephen’s Hill, St Michael, pleaded guilty to unlawfully and maliciously wounding Tia Phillips on June 6, 2014. Phillips was 16 at the time. (SD)
