Court dismisses murder charge

Five months after being released on bail for a murder charge, Daron Devon Thompson got good news from the No. 4 Supreme Court yesterday.

That six-year-old charge would be dismissed because lawmen, who investigated and interviewed him, did not adhere to the Judges’ Rules and infringed his constitutional rights.

The decision was hailed by Thompson’s lawyer Shadia Simpson, who was full of praise for the Barbados Police Service’s electronic interview recording process.

“In this particular case, it was evident that Mr Thompson’s constitutional rights were violated and I really commended the DPP (Director of Public Prosecutions) in the circumstances for taking the position, as a minister of justice, to discontinue the matter against him,” Simpson said yesterday.
