City’s tuk lift

Bridgetown was alive with the sound of music – even though the stores were closed – as thousands of passengers came sailing in on Christmas Day.

While in previous years The City resembled a ghost town on Christmas Day and Boxing Day with very little economic or cultural activity for the tourists, the National Cultural Foundation organised a cultural display with four tuk bands – Drummers Federation, Pantuk, BNH Panside and Pompasettas – playing at different locations.

The bands were originally in Queen’s Park for the annual Christmas Morning In The Park but travelled to the heart of The City to created a Bajan Christmas atmosphere as well as direct the tourists to the park.

Yesterday, four cruise ships – Jewel of the Seas, Norwegian Viva, Viking Sea and Zaandam – were in port. Three more – Ambition, Island Princess and MSC Seaside – are scheduled for today.

The spectacle gained the attention of visitors on foot or driving through in hired vehicles, causing them to stop and marvel while taking pictures.  (CA)
