Call for 11-Plus delay

by Anesta Henry

Some teachers, parents and students are said to be deeply concerned by the Ministry of Education’s decision to set the Barbados Secondary Schools’ Entrance Examination (BSSEE) tentatively for May 7.

At the same time, parent advocate Paula-Anne Moore has suggested that the date be pushed back by one month.

The Midweek Nation acquired a copy of a letter written by a Class 4 teacher, which was also sent to the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT), expressing fears for her students and their preparation for the exam, otherwise known as the Common Entrance or 11-Plus.

“Last night as I laid down, so many thoughts ran through my mind as both my students and their parents were in a panic mode,” wrote the teacher, who requested anonymity for fear of being targeted. (AH)
