Business sector thankful but has some concerns

The Business Sector Escape largely unscathed after the passage of Hurricane Beryl, but concerns linger about food and water security as well as potential impact on electricity.

President of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) James Clarke told the DAILY NATION consideration had to be given to how structures were built, in light of the strength of hurricanes that were now developing.

Beryl passed south of Barbados as a Category 3 system, packing winds of about 70 miles per hour. The South Coast especially took a pounding, with waves measuring between 3.5 and four metres high (11-13 feet). By the time she strengthened to Category 4, near 5, the Grenadines were devastated, losing thousands of homes and the communications infrastructure. (SAT)
