Barbadian Serena Bryan has sealed her place in the J60 ITF junior girls tennis doubles final today at the National Tennis Centre in Wildey.
Alongside her partner Jordane Dookie of Trinidad and Tobago, they won 6-0, 4-6 and 10-4 (on tiebreak) against Diva Bhatia and Mendoza Martinez from India and Mexico, respectively.
The duo of Bryan and Dookie will be looking to secure their fourth ITF Junior Doubles title in 2023 to cap off an impressive year. Standing In their way is American pair Ana Avramovic and Brooke Wallman.
Bryan’s adventure in the girls’ singles competition ended in the quarter-finals when she lost in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 to American Alfa Lopez.
In boys’ singles, Matthew Yang (USA) moved on to the semi-finals after defeating seed number 8, Sebastian Papp (USA) 6-0, 6-2 in the first match of the day.
In a big upset win, Ian Miller (USA) defeated number 1 seed Lucca Pignaton (BRA) in a three set, more than two-hour match, by a score of 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. Miller looks to maintain his great form today when the two face off in the semi-finals.
Girls’ seed number one, Kayla Brianne Moore (USA), moves on after an easy win over Alexa Martinez Mendoza (MEX) 6-0, 6-1. (JC)
