Bovell wants football overhaul

Veteran sports administrator and former senior vice-president of the Barbados Football Association (BFA), Jabez “Jack” Bovell, wants a complete overhaul of football in the country with a professional league, increased prize money and an annual subvention for the clubs.

Bovell, who is now seeking one of the three vice-president positions at the BFA’s annual general meeting on Sunday, also wants an increase in referee courses and their fees, more coaching developmental courses at all levels and a better player insurance plan for injuries.

“I want to see a professional soccer league, where Government, the private sector, the BFA, and Fifa can inject $3 million per year to help with the total development of soccer in Barbados.

“The champion team of the professional league should be receiving $150 000,” declared Bovell, who is the director of the Barbados Soccer Academy.
