For the second consecutive day, no Barbadian has registered a win in what was another difficult outing for the hosts in the International Tennis Federation’s J5 Barbados tournament at the National Tennis Centre in Wildey, St Michael.
In the 9 a.m. clashes Leah Ollivierre lost 6-2, 6-1 to American Gabriela Vilar on Court 2 and Shonte Sargeant didn’t fare much better, losing 6-1, 6-1 to Sarah Stoyanov, also from the United States of America.
Later in the day, Barbados’ top two ranked players Xavier Peter-Gooding and Adam King were convincingly beaten in their doubles match 6-1, 6-3 by International Tennis Federation’s J4 Barbados tournament Boys’ doubles winners Easton Horricks and Esunge Ndumbe. The latter pair will face Canadian Jacob Dubas and Lawrence Ivanow.
Justin Atkins and Luke Ollivierre put up a bit more of a fight but lost 6-2, 6-3 to Xzavier Hastick from Canada and Great Britain’s Leonardo Santoro Fergusson.
International Tennis Federation’s J4 Barbados tournament Girls’ doubles winners Rebecca Fiedler and Katerina Shabashevich made light work of their opponents Leah Ollivierre and Jolie Philips in a 6-1, 6-0 drubbing on Court 1. Up next for them is American duo Simran Makker and Calla Mcgill.
In another match, Canada’s eighth seed, Jacob Dubas overcame southpaw Kristofer Brkic from America 6-4, 7-5 in their Round of 16 match on Court 5. (JC)
