Barbados’ contingent ended the 34th edition of the Central American and Caribbean Amateur Swimming Championships (CCCAN) with a tally of 32 medals.
On another encouraging night for the home team at the Barbados Aquatic Centre in Wildey, 11 year-old Amiya Harrison led the medal rush as she made a golden splash to win the 11-12 Girls’ 50 metres breaststroke event.
The Harrison College student, triumphed in 38.08 seconds to beat Mexican Martinez Zaldivar (38.74) and Barbados-based St Lucian Fayth Jeffrey (38.82) as the hosts enjoyed their best session of the five-day championships.
Harrison’s gold was just the beginning of what turned out to be a memorable night as Barbados captured 11 medals during the proceedings.
CARIFTA and Caribbean Games medallist Danielle Treasure added another medal to her collection as she won silver in the 18 and over girls’ 400 metres freestyle. (AGB)
