Barbadian quartermiler Sada Williams ran her way into the history books as the country’s most decorated female track athlete when she won a second consecutive bronze medal at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary today.
Williams, who finished third last year, repeated the performance, this time in 49.60 seconds, running out of lane eight. She had to make up some ground over the last 100 metres, finding a late burst to hold on for the podium finish.
Pre-race favourite, Marileidy Paulino of Dominic Republic, came home in 48.78 seconds, while Poland’s Natalia Kaczmarek took silver in 49.57.
Williams set a national record of 49.58 in the semis. (SAT)
