BIM TIPSY returned with a bang at the National Botanical Gardens, Waterford, St Michael on Sunday.
While the event was not without its challenges, the artistes, especially the Bajan acts, showed up and showed out.
This year the Twisted Entertainment concert returned after a four-year hiatus with a line-up featuring Jamaicans Dexta Daps, Masicka Armanii and 450, and locals Mole, Brutal Crankstar, Chiief Diin and Idea the Artist, who delivered great performances.
Their songs highlighted themes of street life, progression, sex, love and relationships.
Dexta Daps, who closed the show, appeared on stage around 11:50 p.m., dapperly dressed in a blue and black suit. He quickly apologised for the delay in his performance, explaining that he wanted to make sure everything was correct.
Backed by a live band, he performed hits such as Shabba Madda Pot, Forever, Breaking News, Twinkle, and Wifi.
By the end of the night he had thrown his jacket in the audience, which his screaming fans seemed to appreciate.
Similarly, 450 also had the women going crazy when he performed Bad Gyal, Wild N Rich, What If and Roses. During the latter song, he threw roses in the crowd and even got off the stage and handed the microphone to those who were stage side.
Masicka performed 10 Outta 10, Trophies, Moments, rapped his verse on mega hit Hit and Run and Suicide Note while Armanii performed HAAD (Fiesta) and Pounds.
Although the Bajans opened the show, they did not disappoint. For many of their performances, they were received warmly, if not warmer than their regional counterparts.
Idea the Artist encountered a technical challenge at the start of his set, but by the end of his performance, he had won over the crowd with his songs Pagans, Gal Come, and Dem. There is no doubt that he is one to watch.
Mole performed Do It Fa Daddy, Toxic, Wha U Gaw Do, and had the crowd singing along Peep Back word-for-word.
Brutal Crankstar did Brawling, Freaky Girls and Progress Badman Nuh Lip before Chiief Diin joined him onstage for their Paranoid duet.
After Brutal exited Chiief Diin performed his songs Up to Now, Seesaw, Block Hoppers, Special, 21 Passengers and History.
The venue was well-utilised.
VIP patrons were treated to an assortment of foods, including pasta, ham cutters, Jamaican cuisine, other dishes and a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The bar service was efficient.
Ahead of the event, the venue was listed as a weapons-free zone and there were searches at each entrance and the presence of private and police officers was felt.
While most people gave positive reviews, a few took to the promoter’s social media comments to complain about the long wait time at the security checkpoint at the general entrance.
