Arrangements for Sir Lloyd’s state funeral

The state funeral service for late Prime Minister Sir Lloyd Erskine Sandiford is set for Friday, July 14.

Minister of Labour, Social Security and the Third Sector, Colin Jordan, who is the Coordinating Minister for funeral arrangements made that announcement today during a press briefing at Government Headquarters, Bay Street.

Jordan said that the service would be held at St Peter’s Parish Church and commence at 1:30 p.m., followed by the interment at St James Cemetery, Holetown.

However those unable to visit the church or the gravesite will have an opportunity to view the procession after it departs Paramount Funeral home at 11:15 a.m.

“On the day of the funeral service, the procession will leave Paramount funeral home in Hindsbury Road and proceed . . . through Bank Hall, Eagle Hall, along Black Rock Main Road, to the Frank Worrell Roundabout and continues along Highway 1 until it reaches Speightstown,” Jordan said.

Any individual unable to pay their respects next Friday will have the opportunity to visit the Parliament Building in the City and Democratic Labour Party (DLP) headquarters, George Street, St Michael.

“On Wednesday, July 12, the former Prime Minister will lie in state in the Parliament buildings and on Thursday, July 13, he will be in state at DLP headquarters at George Street.”

His family, President The Most Honourable Dame Sandra Mason, Prime Minister Mia Mottley, followed by members of the public, will be allowed to pay their respects.
