Appeal Court reserves decision

The Court of Appeal has reserved its decision in the appeal brought by convicted manslayer James Ricardo Alexander Fields against his sentence.

Fields, 32, of Martin’s Bay, St John, and formerly of Codrington Hill and later Bank Hall Main Road, both in St Michael, went on trial in 2020 in the No. 3 Supreme Court accused of murdering Michael “Piggy” Dear, 52, on February 18, 2010.

He was found not guilty of that count but guilty of manslaughter. The court heard he shot Dear after the deceased challenged him about the quality of some cocaine rocks and had demanded his money back from Fields.

Justice Carlisle Greaves sentenced Fields to 22 years but ordered him to serve a remaining 16 years after the 2 138 days he had spent on remand were deducted. (HLE)
