Government yesterday officially opened Barbados’ 50th housing estate – Alleyne’s Court, Whitepark Road, St Michael.
“Owning a home and leaving a piece of the rock for their children is a dream every Barbadian carries in their hearts. Good housing is associated with education, health and development, while poor housing is associated with ill health and social decay . . . which is why in 2022 we created the 10 000 housing revolution,” said Minister of Housing Dwight Sutherland during the ceremony.
He said this would give people the opportunity to earn a living and further their education by giving them the ability to leverage an asset. That was why, he added, they had instituted the rent-to-own policy.
“Those living here will have the opportunity to own their homes when the equity reaches a certain level . . . and they can start paying a mortgage,” he said. (CA)
