Agriculture sector on board with Mia’s plan

Members of the farming community are standing behind Government’s measures to assist consumers with the rising cost of living.

They are also pleased with the commitment by the island’s lone feed company to keep prices at a minimum for the next six months.

Yesterday, in response to Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley’s announcement last Thursday, some livestock and crop producers said that given the financial hardships many Barbadians were experiencing, it was important to put the nation’s interest at the forefront and come up with a way to help people cope.

Mottley had said the private sector agreed not to mark up certain items higher than between 12 and 15 per cent.

President of the Barbados Egg and Poultry Producers’ Association, Stephen Layne, said that before the announcement, the Prime Minister would have held meetings with the stakeholders to see what measures were feasible. (SB)
