The journey of Barbados’ response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the health workers who were heroes is a story that needs to be told locally and internationally, says Acting Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw.
The challenge to the management of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) was backed by acting Minister of Health Dr Sonia Browne who told attendees at the institution’s Gold Awards ceremony, dubbed The Journey: People need to know what happened over the past two years.
The awards ceremony at Sandals Resort Barbados in Christ Church heard from ancillary staff, nurses and management how individuals worked beyond the hours scheduled, lost colleagues to the virus, worked alone without help and worked outside of their terms of reference.
“The care of patients is still at the heart of the institution,” Browne said. “I thank you on behalf of those to come,” she added.
Acting Prime Minister Bradshaw said as a cancer survivor she had the experience of the high quality of care at the QEH. (HH)
