Security at Dodds Prison is adequate to deal with the population there, says Minister of Home Affairs Wilfred Abrahams.
He was addressing concerns raised after Tyreke Delandre Benskin, 20, of Promenade Road, Bush Hall, St Michael, escaped two escorting prison warders at the St Philip jail around 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
That led to a massive search in the parish which eventually spread to Yorkshire, Christ Church, where patrolling officers held him. He had spent almost four hours on the run after scaling the walls at Dodds wearing only short blue pants.
Stressing the otherwise unblemished record at the institution, Abrahams said yesterday: “Vigilance has been increased at the prison. The fact that this is the first such incident at the prison would suggest that in the normal course of things, the security is more than adequate to deal with the inmates that we have. This is obviously an anomalous situation, and it is for us to examine properly what did occur so that the decisions that we make or any measures that we put in place are informed.
