Eight young people were recently given the opportunity to start their internship at The Nation Publishing Co. Limited.
This year’s interns came from the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute (SJPI) and the Barbados Community College (BCC).
For six weeks, they will receive hands-on experience in the areas of marketing, graphic design, advertising, engineering, finance, journalism, radio services and information technology.
Nation Group Human Resource Advisor Renee Williams said, “It is our pleasure to host the 2023 cohort of interns within the Nation Group. It is important for organisations like ours to engage the up and coming young professionals who are the future of the workforce. We see this programme as part of our responsibility in enhancing the working environment and engaging our young people as we assist them on their journey to self-actualisation and career fulfilment.
“The internship programme at the Nation Group has provided us with an opportunity to mentor, coach and develop these young minds as the company looks to further develop its future path in an increasingly competitive marketplace where our number one source of competitive advantage is our people.”
Anticipation
Eighteen-year-old Arielle Shepherd, a graduate of the Barbados Community College in mass communication who is attached to the Nation’s Editorial Department, said: “I was highly anticipating the internship because it is something I wanted to do for a while.
“My experience has been more than I expected in the best way possible. My skills are slowly being crafted and I am becoming the journalist I intend to be.”
Additionally, an intern in the Production Department of the company, 19-year-old Simeon Lorde of SJPI, said: “This internship is something I was very interested in because I know it will help to develop my skills in digital printing.”
The other interns are Julivia Gilkes-Trim, Jamoon Hurley, Elisha Ifill, M-Jay Springer, Aaron Yarde and Zania Prescod. The Nation Group internship programme ends later this month. (PR)
