Hurricanes 202-4 in their 2nd innings vs Pride at tea

Leeward Islands Hurricanes were 202 for four in their second innings against Barbados Pride at tea on the third day of their first round match in the West Indies Championship on Friday at Kensington Oval, and lead by 50.

At the break, Devon Thomas was not out on 96, eyeing his seventh first-class and sixth Championship hundred, and Hurricanes captain Jahmar Hamilton was not out on three.

They came together after Pride captain Kraigg Brathwaite grabbed the wickets of Kacey Carty for 55 and Amir Jangoo for one in the span of five balls in his second over in the final half-hour before tea.

Pride toiled for most of the period between lunch and tea to break a third wicket stand between Thomas and Carty that ended on 128.

Brathwaite trapped Carty lbw, sweeping across the line, with the second ball of the over after the former Windies Under-19 batsman occupied the crease almost three hours and struck four fours from 134 balls.

Off the last ball, Brathwaite got Trinidadian left-hander Amir Jangoo caught at slip for one, edging a loose drive to give Pride a strong finish to a period of play they started meekly.

Brathwaite has figures of 2-6 from four overs, and rookie left-arm pacer Ramon Simmonds has taken 2-26 from six overs, but did not bowl between lunch and tea.
