Most Barbadians probably do not know how much money they are allowed to travel with, said an attorney representing a man about to leave the country with too much foreign currency.
That was part of the submissions made by Damian Sands when he addressed the District “B” Magistrates’ Court last week on behalf of his client, Jabario Jaquan Raefael Adams.
Adams, of 2nd Avenue Vauxhall, Christ Church, admitted that on January 13, he contravened the Exchange & Control Act Chapter 71 when he tried to export US$3 337 from Barbados to Canada, without getting permission from the Exchange Control Authority.
Prosecutor Station Sergeant Glenda Carter-Nicholls told the court, sitting at the Eric Holder Municipal Complex in Horse Hill, St Joseph, that Adams, 23, was on his way to Canada with the money when he was stopped at Grantley Adams International Airport. (SD)
