Pinnacle Feeds makes major plant upgrade

Pinnacle Feeds has installed a state-of-the-art mixer at its feed production plant at Lower Estate, St Michael.

And while this will improve the quality of feed, chairman of parent company Roberts Manufacturing Co. Ltd, Peter Bunting, warned the price of feed remained dependent on external factors.

“We have to understand that 70 to 80 per cent of production is the straight input cost of corn and soya . . . . The drivers for the increases in livestock feed for the last two years have been, in a sense, completely out of our hands,” Bunting explained.

“When world fuel prices go up, nobody blames the gas station for increasing their cost of petrol. They understand that they are price-takers. This is a global commodity and the prices are set globally.”

Bunting said over the last two years, there has been a 100 per cent increase in the cost of inputs.

Meanwhile, the new mixer was installed earlier this month at a cost of just over $1 million.

“We are on a path to innovate and transform our operations at Roberts Manufacturing to deliver the benefits of 21st century technology to our customers. This is relevant to maintaining our high-quality and competitiveness across industries where our products and services play a crucial role,” he told journalists after a tour of the plant.  (Nation News)
