The Barbados Tourism Investment Incorporated (BTI) is spending $1.2 million to remove 50 000 cubic metres of construction spoil which has been accumulating over the past seven years on the grounds of the still-to-be-completed Wyndham Grand Sam Lord’s Castle Hotel in St Philip.
In addition, the BTI has also started to relocate 11 families who live in the immediate environs of the area where the construction spoil is piled almost 50 feet high.
The statutory organisation has been managing the construction of the hotel which is being built by COMPLANT, a China-based construction company.
Joyann Haigh, managing director of Haigh Communications Inc., the communications company representing the BTI, told the DAILY NATION that come next week the removal process should get under way.
“We have engaged the services of 17 small contractors to use their trucks to remove the construction spoil,” she said, adding that the humongous task should take about a month. (MB)
