Deputy general secretary of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), Wayne Walrond, says the problem of sick buildings is again rearing its head across the public service.
And it is not only the older buildings, but due to a lack of proper maintenance, it is also manifesting in the newer buildings.
“So in a number of the Government buildings in Warrens there have been complaints. We already know the challenge with the old coral stone buildings that have moisture issue.
“The frustrating thing is that we get a problem resolved and then in a year or two, because of poor maintenance, we see these environmental challenges coming to the surface. So the maintenance schedule for these buildings is something that also must be addressed,” Walrond said.
He pointed out that the issue was taking its toll on public officers, as they were still held to strict deadlines despite time lost due to environmental issues. (Nation News)
