Power is being restored after Barbados was affected by an islandwide outage earlier today.
Manager, Communications and Government Relations at the Barbados Light & Power Co. Ltd, Jackie Marshall Clarke said: “We are currently investigating the fault. We have done our safety checks and we have commenced the restoration process. It is a little early to give you a confirmed restoration time but we will update the public as time goes on. We apologise for this inconvenience and ask for your patience as we seek to restore electricity safely.”
The island-wide power outage occurred at 11:32 this morning.
Around 1:15 p.m., parts of St Lucy, Christ Church, St Philip and the Grantley Adams International Airport were back online.
It has also had an impact on the delivery of water, taking several Barbados Water Authority (BWA) pumping stations offline.
Teams are currently working on this via the use of generators, but in the interim, says the BWA, customers in some parts of the island may experience water outages or low water pressure.
“The Authority advocates that a measured use of water by persons at this time should help in efforts to allow water pressures in the system to return to normal,” it said in a statement. (PR/SAT)
