Coach’s eyes on Nations League

Barbados Tridents head coach Orlando da Costa has set aside the disappointment of last Wednesday’s ill-fated international football friendly against St Vincent and the Grenadines in favour of a full focus on the team’s Concacaf Nations League fixtures later this month.

The team was hopeful of playing one more warm-up game in front of their fans at the Wildey Turf ahead of the all-important Nations League matches this month, but electrical issues prevented the game from being a reality.

On the back of an encouraging three-match tour to Grenada two weeks ago, optimism was high for the team’s first international football game on home soil, but it now appears football fans will have to wait until March 23 against Cuba for that opportunity. The Tridents’ away fixture is against Antigua and Barbuda on March 26.

The Portuguese head coach, who celebrated his 46th birthday last Thursday, told MIDWEEK SPORT the team’s objective was to represent the country well. (NM)
