Chairman of the Barbados Pride selection panel, Hendy Broomes said omitting Jonathan Carter from the squad for the first two rounds of the West Indies Championship was one of the hardest decision for the selectors.
But, Broomes said, the opportunity for the two-time defending champions to blood several young, emerging players was too strong to pass up, and they made the tough choice to exclude the long-serving left-handed batsman and part-time right-arm medium pacer.
The Pride selection panel also comprises former Barbados captain and West Indies batsman Carlisle Best, former Barbados captain and West Indies left-arm spin bowling all-rounder Ryan Hinds, head coach Vasbert Drakes, and new captain Shane Dowrich.
Carter was a surprise omission from the 13-member squad for the first two rounds of matches to be played in Antigua, where Pride play Guyana Harpy Eagles from February 1 to 4 at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground, and Jamaica Scorpions from February 8 to 11 at the Coolidge Cricket Ground. (AR)
