The employer who was accused of not paying the wages of an employee performing jury duty faced off against her staff member in the No. 2 Supreme Court yesterday.
It took almost half an hour but, after hearing both sides, and with input from Senior State Counsel Olivia Davis, Justice Wanda Blair told the juror to furnish her employer, Asha “Mrs Ram” Mirchandani, with the days she was at court and ordered the employer to pay the woman her monies.
A summons had been issued for the employer on Monday after the juror informed the court she had not been paid while she was performing her civic duty.
The businesswoman appeared in court yesterday and, when asked to explain why she had not paid the juror, said she had written the employee telling her she needed to furnish the company with the hours she was at court. (HLE)
